The South Church book group reads and discusses books of common interest to the group. We meet via Zoom for 75 minutes on Monday afternoons, twice a month. Which Mondays we meet is decided by the group.

Decisions about what to read are also decided by the group. Anyone can join the book group; you don’t have to be a church member to participate.

Our focus is definitely on spirituality and not religion. In the past few years we’ve read a wide variety of books. We started out reading Catholic theologian Richard Rohr, which led us to a few years of studying a personality inventory called the Enneagram, which led us to the work of Sandra Maitri. Events of the world led us to explore Walking Each Other Home by Ram Dass and the Hindu spiritual classic, the Bhagavad Gita. Currently we are reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

As Pastor, I facilitate the meetings but do not take on the role of teacher. Whatever wisdom we walk away with arises from insights and experiences shared by all members of the group. Our Zoom gatherings have evolved into a great place not only to learn and grow, but to share. Group discussions of the readings help us apply new understandings to our daily lives.

If you’re interested in checking us out please contact the church office at office@thesouthchurch or 847-253-0501. Leave your contact information and I will get in touch with you.
